Who we are

After 20 years in the high tech world of commercial design and architecture Rich rediscovered his love for hand tools and traditional crafts while working on local historic renovation projects during the pandemic. Once his interest was sparked he reskilled in Heritage Masonry and Joinery repair techniques at The Scottish Lime Trust, Bath College and a variety of SPAB (Society for Protection of Ancient Buildings) courses. Working alongside local masons and joiners has given Rich invaluable practical experience as well as a highly skilled network of local crafts people to call on.

Aubrey Restorations ethos is inspired by the SPAB’s approach to sustainable Heritage Building Repair and Maintenance. We believe that traditional crafts using natural local materials are inherently sustainable, providing a durable repair which maintains the historic fabric and character of the building.

The keystone to this approach is our use of natural materials where ever possible. We use native hard and soft woods such as Oak and Scots Pine in our joinery and locally quarried Bath Stone and lime mortar in our masonry. These materials provide a durable and appropriate repair which maintains the building’s original fabric and character for future generations.
